Artist Statement

Coming from a mathematics and programming background, I find works based on patterns, rules, or rhythms beautiful.  I like to have an overall organization but also include an element of chaos.  The underlying structure gives the work a solid attractive basis while the disruptive elements bring it to life.

My process starts with a sketch which is usually designed directly in a drawing program.  My works are constructed out of many smaller laser-cut felt pieces that are assembled on a supporting back piece.  This construction can include etched pieces, felt "pins", cord, thread, and glue. The thick, dense felt that I use has a warm tactile presence and is also well suited to building the works.
